Meet Maaike van den Boomen! She is a visiting Ph.D. Candidate from the University Medical Center Groningen (Netherlands) who is translating existing imaging technologies for the brain to the heart. She started her career with a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Technology in Eindhoven (Netherlands) and in addition holds a degree as physics and chemistry teacher. Part of her fascinating research in the Nguyen Lab involves imaging of the blood oxygenation level dependent in the myocardium and determination of early imaging markers of HFrEF. In addition, Maaike is actively involved at the Martinos Center of Biomedical Imaging. She has facilitated a collaboration with the her home imaging department and the Martinos Center and is one of the organizers of the Science on Tap discussion and networking series on Friday afternoons.
